We are all well aware of the sky rocketing gas prices around the country and in our own back yard , Upstate NY $3.75 Gallon . I am putting this post out there to maybe give some folks a helping hand in combating the higher gas prices and to basically make a statement that yes you can do something about it .
1) make sure your car is tuned up and running properly , make sure that you have a new air filter in your car , If your car is struggling to get fresh air into it it will burn more gas , Also make sure that you have your tires filled to the proper air level , If your tires are soft than your car has a harder time rolling and this also causes you to burn more gas .
2) WWW.Hypermiling.com learn to make your car sip gas instead of guzzling it , i tried a lot of the tips last summer and it really worked , i was running around 23 miles a gallon and got up to 24.9 within a few days , these are things like putting your car in neutral on long straight aways or slight down hills or even turning your car off ( do not lock steering ) while coasting , Again the tire pressure is key to this trick , there are a ton more , I would visit the sites and learn . You really need to have a standard or a center console shift to make this easy , You would be surprised to see how far you can actually coast and it was kind of fun because it becomes that family challenge to see how far you can coast , Of course we did this on roads that were not busy and where we were not putting anyone in danger , the numbers that some of the civic drivers were putting up with hypermiling was incredible .
3) everyone is pretty pissed off about the high gas prices , and they are willing to make a statement about it in the form of a bumper sticker , I have been selling small 3.5 x 3.5 bumper stickers that are made off a walmart ink jet printer and some adhesive backed media , i am earning roughly 5-6 dollars a week which has me back down under $3.00 a gallon this is not the greatest or easiest way but it does help .
